The Jordan River Temple open house is in full swing! So we thought that now would be a perfect time to share 10 stunning photos of the temple before it’s re-dedicated on May 20, 2018 and then back in operation.

The temple closed for an extensive renovation in February 2016. While the general floor plan remained the same, some interior spaces were remodeled, including the Celestial Room, bride’s room, initiatory areas, and the baptistry. The entire interior and exterior were refreshed and beautified with new furnishings, finishes, carpet, artwork, and murals. Escalators were replaced with staircases. Outdated mechanical and electrical systems were replaced with modern equipment including plumbing, heating, and air conditioning. The roof was replaced, and seismic upgrades were made. Modifications to the landscaping has beautified the temple grounds, which is something we as photographers are particularly excited about!

The beautifully-white temple stands in the southern Salt Lake Valley, 2 miles west of I-15. It is the namesake of the Jordan River, which flows about a mile east of the temple on its course through the valley. The grounds are open to all who wish to the feel the peace that surrounds this holy building.

If you haven’t had a chance and would still like to, free open house tours are running through Saturday, April 28, 2018, except for March 31 and April 1, 8, 15 and 22. Complimentary tickets are available for the temple open house at templeopenhouse.lds.org.

Before we share these beautiful photos with you, here are a few facts that you might not know about the Jordan River Temple:

• It was originally dedicated on November 16, 1981 by Marion G. Romney and was the seventh temple built in Utah.
• The Jordan River Temple and the Oquirrh Mountain Temple were the first pair of temples to be built in the same city.
• It is the highest-capacity temple in the Church, with six ordinance rooms each seating 125 patrons. These numbers could have gone up even more since the remodel!
