Rising majestically beside Interstate 5, the San Diego Temple stands as a major landmark to those traveling to or from San Diego. The temple’s beautiful and unique architecture makes it one of the most distinctive and well-known LDS temples in the world
Situated near the upscale community of La Jolla in San Diego, the striking double towers of the San Diego California Temple soar above I-5 in heavily populated Southern California. Connecting the towers at the center is a supernal star-shaped atrium filled with a healthy, colorful garden.
Before we share the photos with you, here are a few facts that you might not know about the San Diego Temple:
- It was dedicated on April 25, 1993 by Gordon B. Hinckley.
- It was the third temple built in California, following the Los Angeles Temple and the Oakland Temple.
- Over 720,000 visitors attended the widely-publicized open house.
- President Benson’s ailing health did not allow him to preside at the dedication of the temple, so President Hinckley was assigned to the dedication in 23 sessions where 49,273 persons attended.
