Austin Temple Groundbreaking Date Announced

It was announced today that the groundbreaking for the new Austin Texas Temple will take place in about three months on August 17, 2024. Elder Michael A. Dunn, Second Counselor in the North America Southwest Area Presidency, will preside at the event.

The Austin Temple was announced two years ago by President Nelson during the April 2022 General Conference. The location was announced at the end of the same year. The new temple will be located next to the current meetinghouse on a 10.6-acre site in Cedar Park. It will be a beautiful single-story structure of approximately 30,000 square feet with a center spire, as you can see in the artist rendering above and larger below.

Of course we will post more information as it becomes available regarding the open house and completion timeline. We’re excited for members in Austin to be able to watch the progress of their new temple over the next two or three years until it’s finished! In the past, members there have traveled to San Antonio for the nearest temple. So this new temple will be a wonderful blessing for them. The Austin Temple will be one of eight temples in Texas that is in operation, under construction, or announced.
