Cleveland Temple Groundbreaking Date Announced

It was announced yesterday that the groundbreaking for the new Cleveland Ohio Temple will take place in about six weeks on June 1, 2024. Elder Vaiangina Sikahema, First Counselor in the North America Northeast Area Presidency, will preside at the event.

The Cleveland Temple was announced two years ago by President Nelson during the April 2022 General Conference. The location was announced later that same year. The new temple will be located only about 20 miles from the Church’s first temple – the Kirtland Ohio Temple. The new temple will be a beautiful single-story structure of approximately 9,900 square feet with a center spire, as you can see in the artist rendering above. And as you’ll see in the picture below, site preparations are already under way.

Of course we will post more information as it becomes available regarding the open house and completion timeline. We’re excited for members in Ohio to be able to watch the progress of their new temple over the next two or three years until it’s finished! This will be Ohio’s second operating temple, following the Columbus Temple (the Kirtland Temple is not an operating temple, and remains open for public tours).
