Lone Mountain Temple, Cleveland Temple, and Austin Temple Locations Announced
It’s been a busy couple of weeks for temple announcements, as the locations of three future temples were recently revealed – the Lone Mountain Nevada Temple, the Cleveland Ohio Temple, and the Austin Texas Temple. What a blessing these temples will be to the Latter-day Saints in their respective areas!
Lone Mountain Nevada Temple
The Lone Mountain Temple will be built on a 19.8-acre site located southwest of Hickam Avenue between North Grand Canyon Drive and Tee Pee Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada. The initial plans call for a three-story temple of approximately 87,000 square feet. To put it into perspective, the Las Vegas Temple’s size is 80,350 square feet, so the demand for another large temple in the area must be significant! This will be the city’s second temple, following the aforementioned Las Vegas Temple, which has been in operation since 1989.
President Nelson announced the Lone Mountain Temple very recently during the October 2022 General Conference, so the process for the temple’s construction is moving quickly. There are two other two temples in Nevada – the Reno Temple and the Elko Temple, which is currently under construction.

Cleveland Ohio Temple
The Cleveland Temple site is located at Brecksville Rd., south of Longano Dr. in Independence, Ohio. Plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 9,900 square feet. Interestingly, at the time of this writing, this future temple will be the smallest temple in the United States, just under the 10,000 square feet that many other temples in the country have. But in the end, the size of the temple doesn’t matter in the least. It’s the work that’s done inside the temple that matters!
The Cleveland Temple was one of 17 new temples that were announced earlier this year by President Nelson during the in April 2022 General Conference. It will be the second operating temple in Ohio, following the Columbus Temple, which is currently undergoing major renovations. The Kirtland Temple, which is not currently owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was actually the very first temple built in our dispensation.

Austin Texas Temple
The Austin Temple will be built on a 10.6-acre site adjacent to an existing meetinghouse located at 1801 E. Park Street in Cedar Park. Initial plans call for a single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet. The new temple was also announced by President Nelson during the October 2021 General Conference, and it will be the eighth temple in Texas.
Of course these are just early announcements, so more detailed design plans for all three of these temples are still being developed. Interior renderings, as well as more information, will be made public at a later time. Groundbreaking dates have not been set yet either. In the coming months, project leaders will begin working with city officials to make plans more official.
