New Church Website About Temples
Latter-day Saints are a temple-building and temple-loving people. It has been so from the earliest days of the Church. Through the Prophet Joseph Smith, the Lord declared that “my people are always commanded to build [temples] unto my holy name” (D&C 124:39-40).
As all members of the Church know, there is now an increased focus on home-centered, church-supported gospel learning. Our homes are now the best and most important Sunday School classes, MTCs, family history centers, and temple preparation classes. Regarding the last item, a little while back the Church also released a new resource to help families know what they should or shouldn’t say as they teach about temples in their homes, as well as information for non-members.
In his talk in the recent April General Conference, Elder David A. Bednar emphasized the importance of speaking of the Lord’s house with reverence, and not discussing, explaining, or describing the sacred information we are instructed never to reveal. But he also said that there is much that we can share. We now have a new website, temples.churchofjesuschrist.org, where Church members and others now have access to a variety of resources related to the temple, including a video about sacred temple clothing. These resources and information can act as guideposts as we share, teach, and learn about temples in our homes and discuss them with others. Just follow the link above or below to explore more resources on the website.
Other information on the website includes temple construction, open house, and dedication news, how to prepare to enter the temple, the temple endowment, work for the dead, temple sealings, teachings about the temples, and why temples are so important.
