It has been five years since the Taylorsville Utah Temple was announced in April 2019 by President Nelson, and now the time has finally come for the wait to come to an end and reveal to the public the wonderful interior of the new temple and begin the open house. Latter-day Saints in the Salt Lake Valley will be welcoming all visitors to the temple starting this Friday, April 12th. The public open house will last for five weeks, until May 18th, excluding Sundays. Specially-invited guests are beginning their tours of the new temple today. Prior to the public open house on Friday, the Church has released a number of wonderful photos of the finished interior of the new temple.

The 70,000-square-foot temple, one of the largest in the world (although it perhaps does not appear so), is visible to the many motorists traveling on Interstate 215, the Belt Route. The temple stands on a 16-acre site at 2603 West 4700 South.

The new temple’s architectural style has come to be known as pioneer-era Gothic, inspired by local pioneer tabernacles. The style is very similar to the Provo City Center Temple, which was literally rebuilt from a tabernacle. The Taylorsville Temple’s exterior art glass features flowers that are stylized versions of local wildflowers. The deep burgundy, lavender and gold color palette used in the temple was also inspired by Gothic architecture, but stays true to the colors found in the west side of the Salt Lake Valley. Gold-leaf line work highlights specific designs and structural elements. The inside of the temple is truly a site to see.

The landscaping includes drought-tolerant plant material, limited turf areas and an efficient, smart-controlled drip irrigation system used to be waterwise and maintenance friendly.

As was announced in January, once the open house is complete and the temple has been cleaned again and prepared, it will be dedicated on Sunday, June 2, 2024, by Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. It will be one of 30 temples in Utah that are in operation, under construction, or announced.

So as a reminder, the public open house for the Taylorsville Temple will run from Friday, April 12 through Saturday, May 18, 2024, except for Sundays. Free reservations for tours can be made at www.churchofjesuschrist.org/temples/open-houses.
