Pictures Inside the New Wichita Temple and Open House Begins
Four and a half years have passed since the Wichita Kansas Temple was announced in April 2022 by the late President Nelson, and now the time has finally come to reveal to the public the beautiful interior of the new temple and begin the public open house this week. Latter-day Saints in the southern Kansas area will be welcoming all visitors to the temple starting this Thursday, September 24. The public open house will run for just over two and a half weeks, until October 10, excluding Sundays and October 3rd for General Conference. Specially-invited guests began their tours of the new temple yesterday. Prior to the public open house tomorrow, the Church has released a number of wonderful pictures of the finished inside of the temple, which you can see below.
The temple’s design motifs draw from the local landscape and heritage of Kansas, including its rolling wheat fields and sunflowers. The interior features a color palette of sage green, golden wheat, soft paprika and buttercream that echoes the agricultural vistas of the Great Plains. The 9,950-square-foot temple stands in a quiet area of northwest Wichita. It will be the 229th temple in the world and the first in Kansas. Members in the area have previously traveled to either the Kansas City Missouri Temple or the Oklahoma City Oklahoma Temple.
As was announced in May, once the open house is complete and the temple has been cleaned again and prepared, it will be dedicated on Sunday, November 1, 2026, and broadcast to all congregations in the new temple district. Elder Patrick Kearon, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, will preside at the dedication and offer the dedicatory prayer. The dedication will take place at 10:00 a.m. and be rebroadcast at 2 p.m. to all congregations in the Wichita area.
So as a reminder, the public open house for the Wichita Temple will run from Thursday, September 24 through Saturday, October 10, 2026, except for Sundays and General Conference weekend. You do NOT need tickets or reservations to tour the temple. The hours are 9:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.
