Smithfield Temple & Knoxville Temple Open House & Dedication Dates Announced

The open house and dedication dates for two temples were announced recently! Following their respective public open houses, the Smithfield Utah Temple will be dedicated on Sunday, April 18, 2027, and the Knoxville Tennessee Temple will be dedicated on Sunday, March 7, 2027. More details below.

Smithfield Utah Temple

After more than four years of construction, the Smithfield Temple open house will begin on Thursday, February 25, and go through Saturday, March 27, 2027, excluding Sundays.

Following the open house, the dedication of the temple will take place on Sunday, April 18, 2027. Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside and offer the dedicatory prayer. The session will likely take place at 10:00 a.m. and be broadcast to all units in the new temple district. Then it will likely be rebroadcasted at 2 p.m.

The temple was originally announced over five years ago in April 2021 by President Nelson, and the groundbreaking was held in June 2022. So after nearly six years of waiting, the Latter-day Saints in the area are surely very excited for this announcement and the dedication of the new temple.

Knoxville Tennessee Temple

The timeline for the Knoxville Temple has definitely been faster than the above Smithfield Temple! After nearly three years of construction, the Knoxville Temple open house will begin on Wednesday, January 27, and run until Saturday, February 13, 2027, excluding Sundays.

Following the open house, the dedication of the temple will take place on Sunday, March 7, 2027. Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will preside at the dedication and offer the dedicatory prayer. The dedicatory session will take place at 10:00 a.m. and will be broadcast to all units in the new temple district. It will then be rebroadcasted at 2 p.m.

The temple was originally announced four and a half years ago by President Nelson in April 2022, and the groundbreaking was held in January 2024. So the Latter-day Saints in the greater Knoxville area are surely very excited for this announcement and the dedication of the new temple! This will be the third temple in Tennessee, following the Memphis Temple and the Nashville Temple. These three temples will server more than 57,000 Latter-day Saints in the state.

If you’d like to tour either of these temples before they are dedicated, you will most likely be able to go any time without a reservation.
