Today it was announced that the St. George Utah Temple will close later this year for a major renovation. The closure will be in effect for more than two years.
The plan is to close the temple on November 4, 2019. Crews will begin extensive structural, mechanical, electrical, finish and plumbing work. At this time, the renovation is expected to be completed some time in 2022.
Last year, during the October 2018 General Conference, President Russell M. Nelson announced that the Church was making plans to renovate and update pioneer-generation temples like St. George, Logan and Manti. No specific temples were mentioned at the time, but these are examples of pioneer temples.
The St. George Temple was the first temple completed in Utah, dedicated in April 1877. It was rededicated in November 1975 after it was remodeled.
The Church plans to release more information about the temple renovation later this year. So please stay tuned!
