Willamette Valley Temple Groundbreaking Date Announced

It was announced today that the groundbreaking for the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple will take place in about four months on Saturday, October 29, 2022. Attendance at the event will be by invitation only. Elder Valeri V. Cordón, a General Authority Seventy and first counselor in the North America West Area Presidency, will preside at the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Willamette Valley Temple was announced last year by President Nelson during the April 2021 General Conference. The location was also announced in September last year, stating that the new temple will be built on a 10.5-acre site located at the intersection of International Boulevard and Corporate Way in Springfield, Oregon, a suburb of Eugene, Oregon. It will be a beautiful single-story temple of approximately 30,000 square feet with a center spire, as you can see in the artist rendering above.

The new temple is Oregon’s third, following the Portland Temple and the Medford Temple, and it will serve more than 30,000 Latter-day Saints in the area.

Of course we will post more information as it becomes available regarding the open house and completion timeline. We’re excited for members in Oregon to be able to watch the progress of their new temple over the next two or three years until it’s finished!
