About the Bentonville Arkansas Temple
Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 5, 2019 at the 189th General Conference, and dedicated on September 17, 2023 by Elder David A. Bednar, the Bentonville Temple is the 181st operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the 1st built in the state of Arkansas. The 28,472-square-foot temple stands on 18.62 acres at 1105 McCollum Drive, with a precast concrete exterior and art glass throughout. Elder Bednar, who served as a professor at the University of Arkansas and was called as the first president of the Rogers Arkansas Stake, presided at both the groundbreaking on November 7, 2020 and the dedication — calling it "a moment that for most of my life, I never could have imagined would occur even in this moment."
The temple's design is deeply rooted in the character of northwest Arkansas. The exterior and interior art glass feature the dogwood blossom — one of the region's first spring flowers — alongside sunburst and diamond motifs honoring Arkansas as the only state with a diamond mine open to the public. Quilt patterns rendered in red, yellow, and blue speak to Bentonville's small-town American heritage. Dogwood trees line the grounds, with other native Arkansas species throughout the landscape. The public open house ran June 17 through July 1, 2023, with volunteers planting thousands of petunias, geraniums, begonias, and other blooms in the weeks before opening day. The Bentonville Temple was one of three temples dedicated on September 17, 2023 — the most temple dedications ever held on a single day in Church history.
