About the Brigham City Utah Temple
Announced on October 3, 2009 and dedicated on September 23, 2012 by President Boyd K. Packer, the Brigham City Temple is the 139th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the 14th built in Utah, and the 1st in Box Elder County. The 36,000-square-foot temple is faced with precast concrete limestone and features twin end spires reaching 165 feet, an Angel Moroni statue on the east spire, a water feature, and fruit trees throughout the grounds paying homage to the area's historic orcharding traditions. The temple won the PCI Design Award for Best Religious Structure in 2014 from the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute.
The temple holds a deeply personal story in its dedication. President Boyd K. Packer — a native of Brigham City — said "I am home" when he rose to speak at the July 2010 groundbreaking, held on the very site of the Central Elementary School he had attended as a boy, 80 years before. At the dedication, he spoke lovingly of the historic tabernacle across the street and blessed the surrounding communities to be strengthened in their faith. The public open house in August–September 2012 saw lines stretching around the block throughout its run, with Labor Day weekend drawing some of the largest crowds — and no guest was ever turned away. The Brigham City Temple is one of only a handful in the Church where both the groundbreaking and dedication were presided over by the same General Authority.
