About the Burley Idaho Temple

Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 4, 2021 and dedicated on January 11, 2026 by President Dallin H. Oaks, the Burley Idaho Temple is the 212th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the 7th built in Idaho. The 45,300-square-foot temple sits on 10.12 acres at 40 South 150 East in Burley, just west of the Snake River and Highway 81. At the groundbreaking on June 4, 2022, Elder Brent H. Nielson — born and raised in Burley — said of the Magic Valley: "It was just a few hundred yards from here where I learned to love and enjoy life." In his dedicatory prayer he said, "As we turn this soil, we pray for an eternal harvest as a house of the Lord rises out of the ground in this place."

President Oaks's dedication of the Burley Temple carried personal significance: as a child he lived in nearby Twin Falls for about five years, and he chose Burley specifically because it was "close to my heart." At the dedication he taught that "the work of temples is centered on our Savior and Redeemer, Jesus Christ — all that is learned and done here relates to Him." The temple's design celebrates Idaho's Magic Valley agricultural heritage throughout. The art glass features potato plant blossoms — honoring the region's most iconic crop — in a warm palette of blue, gold, amber, cream, orange, peach, and green. Interior rugs are crafted from New Zealand wool, and the primary stone is Botticino Classico marble from Italy, accented with Jerusalem Gold and Verde Guatemala. Artwork by Leon Parson and Ken Spencer captures the landscapes of the Magic Valley and the City of Rocks.
