About the Cody Wyoming Temple
Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 3, 2021, at the October 2021 General Conference, and to be dedicated on October 25, 2026 by Elder Clark G. Gilbert, the Cody Temple is the third temple built in Wyoming, following the Star Valley Temple and the Casper Temple. The 9,950-square-foot temple sits on 4.69 acres at 555 Temple View Lane, just west of the Olive Glenn Golf Club on Skyline Drive in Cody. Its compact single-instruction-room, single-sealing-room design with one baptistry reflects the relatively small but deeply committed Latter-day Saint membership of the Big Horn Basin and surrounding region. Approximately one-ninth of Wyoming's population — around 68,000 people — claim membership in the Church. The groundbreaking was held September 27, 2024, presided over by Elder Steven R. Bangerter, who prayed that those in the surrounding community would "feel a spirit of peace wash over them, granting them comfort and assurance that the presence of this temple will bring added joy, prosperity, beauty and unity to their lives."
Cody carries a rich Latter-day Saint cultural heritage. The city is home to the Historic Cody Mural and Museum — located in a Church meetinghouse open to the public during summer months — which features a large domed ceiling with a brilliantly colored mural depicting scenes from Church history, including the Restoration and the westward pioneer migration across Wyoming. Pioneers famously crossed the state in great numbers during the 1840s through 1860s, and their descendants have maintained a faithful presence in Wyoming ever since. The free public open house for the Cody Temple runs from August 27 through September 12, 2026, with no reservations required. The dedicatory session on October 25, 2026 will be broadcast to all units in the temple district.
