About the Ephraim Utah Temple

President Russell M. Nelson announced the Ephraim Temple on May 11, 2021, a decision with deep personal roots for the Church president: his mother was born in Ephraim, his father in nearby Manti, and three of his four grandparents — along with all eight of his great-grandparents — lived in Ephraim. The temple's origin is closely tied to the Manti Temple a few miles south; President Nelson later explained that shortly after the April 2021 general conference, he received clear instruction that the historic pioneer craftsmanship of the Manti Temple, then scheduled for a major renovation, should be preserved, and that a new temple should instead be built in Ephraim. The site — a 9.16-acre parcel at the intersection of 200 North and 400 East, directly northeast of Snow College — was announced on October 22, 2021, and an exterior rendering followed on March 4, 2022. President Nelson presided at the groundbreaking and site dedication on August 27, 2022, telling those gathered that his mother was born not far from the very temple site and that all eight of his great-grandparents had lived in Ephraim. The three-story, approximately 39,000-square-foot temple features large arched windows throughout, an arched entryway, and a multilevel octagonal tower capped with a domed cupola — a design that forgoes the traditional gold-leafed angel Moroni statue in favor of two elegant end towers. Inside, the temple includes four endowment rooms, three sealing rooms, and a baptistry. A public open house is scheduled for September 2 through 19, 2026, followed by dedication on October 11, 2026 by Elder Ronald A. Rasband of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
