About the Farmington New Mexico Temple

Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 4, 2021, and dedicated on August 17, 2025 by Elder Neil L. Andersen, the Farmington Temple is the 208th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the 2nd built in New Mexico — joining the Albuquerque Temple. The 29,066-square-foot temple sits on 6.63 acres at the intersection of College Boulevard and Windsor Drive across from San Juan College, on the site of the former Farmington New Mexico Stake Center. At the groundbreaking on April 30, 2022, Elder Anthony D. Perkins of the Quorum of the Seventy — who grew up in Farmington and met his wife there — said, "To us, this region is home." In his site dedicatory prayer, he asked that people "of every race and ethnicity, every language, every political persuasion, and every walk of life will feel welcome to come up to worship in this holy place." The public open house ran from July 17 through August 2, 2025.

The temple's interior design is one of the most distinctive of any recent Church temple, drawing deeply from the Native American heritage of the Navajo Nation and surrounding Four Corners communities that make up a significant portion of the temple's district. Design motifs include the piñon pine cone and globemallow flower, rendered alongside Native American feather patterns, organic chevron and diamond running patterns, geometric line work, and stepped pyramid shapes. The art glass features these same motifs in a palette of cream, turquoise, coral, yellow, gold, green, and blue. Interior rugs feature vibrant coral, turquoise, and warm cream colors in stepped pyramid and diamond patterns. Original artwork in the temple includes "A Child's Prayer" by Kwani Povi Winder — a Native American Latter-day Saint artist — and two paintings of regional landscapes. Elder Andersen said at the dedication: "This sacred house of the Lord testifies more than any other place of the immortality of the soul."
