About the Grand Junction Colorado Temple

Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 4, 2021 and dedicated on October 19, 2025 by President Jeffrey R. Holland, the Grand Junction Colorado Temple is the 210th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the 3rd built in Colorado, following the Denver Temple and Fort Collins Temple. The 29,630-square-foot temple sits on 7.93 acres at the corner of Horizon Drive and North 12th Street, about a mile from an Interstate 70 interchange, clad in Portuguese Pedras Salgadas granite with a bronze-finish Ameristar fence enclosing the beautifully landscaped grounds. At the groundbreaking on April 16, 2022, Elder Chi Hong (Sam) Wong — noting that Easter Sunday fell the next day — prayed that participants might "maintain this positive spiritual momentum in our lives." The public open house ran September 11–27, 2025.

The temple's design celebrates the distinctive natural environment of the Grand Junction area at every level. The claret cup cactus — Colorado's official state cactus — is the signature motif, its crimson petals rendered in the art glass, alongside amber, green, and pale pink hues drawn from the high-desert landscape. Interior decorative paint references Indian paintbrush, cliff rose blossoms, and peach blossoms — nodding to the Grand Valley's orchard heritage. The baptismal font railing features an intertwining geometric pattern representing the two rivers that meet at Grand Junction, with claret cup blossoms at the top. Interior stone includes Mineo marble accented by New Saffron, Red Jasper, Verde Laguna, and Quetzal Green — colors evoking the canyon walls and river rock of the Colorado Plateau. Artwork depicting dramatic western landscapes completes the temple's visual tribute to this corner of the American West.
