About the Layton Utah Temple

Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 1, 2018 and dedicated June 16, 2024 by Elder David A. Bednar, the Layton Utah Temple is the 195th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the 22nd built in Utah, and the second in Davis County — joining the Bountiful Temple. The 93,539-square-foot temple sits on 11.8 acres on the southeast side of Layton, on a beautiful slope between the Wasatch Mountains and the valley floor. The exterior features precast concrete panels with cascading arched windows and vibrant art glass, whose colorful seedling-to-fruit-tree designs also illuminate the interior with warm light.

The temple's Art Nouveau design — inspired by the agricultural heritage of Davis County, once known as "The Garden Spot of Utah" — runs throughout the building in cherry blossom motifs, leafy branches, and organic curves in the millwork, stonework, and decorative lighting. Among the temple's distinctive interior features is an antique Tiffany art glass piece entitled "The Resurrection," circa 1915, acquired from a demolished church in Armenia, New York — a one-of-a-kind treasure found nowhere else in the Church. 43 days of public open house tours preceded the dedication, drawing visitors from across Davis County and beyond.
