Montreal Quebec Canada Temple Pictures

The Montreal Temple is a beautifully-crafted house of the Lord in the heart of French Canada — its Quebec granite exterior adorned with maple leaf carvings, gold and blue art glass in geometric patterns drawn from historic Montreal architecture, and locally crafted maple wood millwork throughout the interior. The sixth temple built in Canada, the first ever in Quebec, and the 81st in the world, it was dedicated on June 4, 2000 and rededicated on November 22, 2015 following a complete structural renovation. Our collection of Montreal Temple pictures, art prints, and paintings captures this distinctive temple in a range of styles and sizes.

About the Montreal Quebec Temple

Announced on April 2, 2000 and dedicated on June 4, 2000 by President Gordon B. Hinckley — on the same day as the San José Costa Rica Temple — the Montreal Temple is the 81st operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the sixth in Canada, and the first built in Quebec. The temple is situated in the greater Montreal area and features an extraordinary degree of locally-sourced craftsmanship: the exterior is clad with granite quarried in Quebec; the maple leaf exterior carvings were sculpted by Stefani Hunt of Spanish Fork, Utah, and manufactured by Les Pierres Technofil Inc. of St. Nicolas, Quebec; the art glass geometric windows — inspired by historic metal grill patterns on Montreal doors and windows — were fabricated by Warren Edis of Kelowna, British Columbia, and Medieval Glass of Vancouver; and the mahogany millwork was milled by Ebénisterie Renova of Plessiville, Quebec, alongside native Quebec maple millwork throughout. The original oil mural by David Koch of Richmond, Utah, depicts the wildlife and landscape of the Montreal area and the St. Lawrence River.

The first stake president in Montreal's district recalled telling friends at the Toronto temple of his hope for a local temple, saying he "never dreamed it would happen, let alone this soon." On June 2, 2014, the temple closed for a complete structural renovation — replacing the original wood framing with reinforced concrete and steel, re-cladding the entire exterior with new Quebec granite, updating all mechanical systems, and refreshing the interior throughout. A ten-day public open house in November 2015 invited the community to tour the renovated building, and President Dieter F. Uchtdorf rededicated the temple on November 22, 2015. The temple serves 4 stakes and 1 district throughout Quebec and eastern Ontario.
