About the Red Cliffs Utah Temple

Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 7, 2018 — the same announcement in which he noted that pioneer-era temples, including the Salt Lake Temple, would soon undergo renovation — the Red Cliffs Utah Temple was the 20th temple built in Utah and the 2nd in Washington County, joining the St. George Utah Temple just a few miles to the west across Interstate 15. The 96,277-square-foot temple sits on 15.31 acres at 1555 South Red Cliffs Temple Lane, sited at the end of a palm-tree-lined entrance boulevard with the Pine Valley Mountains visible to the north. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland — a native of Southern Utah — presided at the groundbreaking on November 7, 2020. President Henry B. Eyring dedicated the completed temple on March 24, 2024.

The temple's design draws extensively from its Southern Utah desert setting. The precast concrete exterior features cottonwood leaf motifs inspired by the grand cottonwood trees lining the Virgin River and the canyons of Zion National Park. Art glass throughout the building depicts stylized Indian paintbrush, bearclaw poppies — an endangered endemic wildflower found only in the St. George area — and succulents native to the region. The grounds include three reflecting pools with waterfalls to the north, shaded plazas to the east and west, and bridal gardens to the south, all surrounded by desert-adapted plantings that complement the surrounding landscape.
