About the San Antonio Texas Temple

Announced on June 24, 2001 and dedicated May 22, 2005 by President Gordon B. Hinckley, the San Antonio Temple is the 120th operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the 4th built in Texas. The 16,800-square-foot temple sits on 5.5 acres at 20080 Stone Oak Parkway in north San Antonio. Built from granite, it features a single spire with an Angel Moroni statue that was placed atop the building on September 21, 2004 — coinciding with the 181st anniversary of Moroni's first appearance to Joseph Smith, a detail not lost on those who marked the occasion.

The dedication weekend was a memorable one for San Antonio members. The evening before the ceremony, 20,000 people filled the Alamodome for a cultural celebration featuring fireworks, horses, and more than 4,000 singers and dancers reflecting on Texas history, patriotism, and the story of the Church. During the three-week public open house, more than 50,000 visitors toured the temple — a significant turnout for a smaller temple in a region where Church membership was still growing.
