About the Smithfield Utah Temple
Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on April 4, 2021 at the 191st Annual General Conference, the Smithfield Temple will be the 26th temple built in Utah and the second in Cache County, joining the Logan Utah Temple, which was dedicated in 1884. The 81,000-square-foot temple is being constructed on a 13.3-acre parcel at the intersection of N 800 West and W 100 North in Smithfield — land that had been farmed by the same family for more than 160 years. At the groundbreaking ceremony on June 18, 2022, Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles — who was raised in Cache Valley — presided and described the valley as "among the most beautiful places on earth." In his site dedicatory prayer, Elder Cook said the temple would be "a beacon light for the communities it serves."
Major construction is now complete and interior finishing and furnishing is underway as the temple prepares for its public open house and dedication, dates for which have not yet been announced. The temple features two attached end towers and will serve members throughout the northern end of Cache Valley and the surrounding region.
