The Taylorsville Temple is a beautifully-designed temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley — its 216-foot spire rising along Interstate 215 in a design inspired by the pioneer-era tabernacles of early Utah. Dedicated on June 2, 2024, it is the fifth temple built in the Salt Lake Valley and a beloved new landmark for the communities of Taylorsville, Kearns, Magna, Murray, and the surrounding area. About the Taylorsville Utah Temple
Announced by President Russell M. Nelson on October 5, 2019 and dedicated June 2, 2024 by Elder Gerrit W. Gong — a Taylorsville native whose wife grew up in the area — the Taylorsville Utah Temple is the 192nd operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the 21st built in Utah, and the 5th in the Salt Lake Valley. Built on 7.5 acres at the former site of a stake center meetinghouse, the 73,492-square-foot temple features stone cladding, a single octagonal spire, and an architectural style described as pioneer-era Gothic — taking its cues from the historic tabernacles built by early Latter-day Saint settlers throughout Utah.
The temple's exterior art glass incorporates stylized versions of local Utah wildflowers — the bird's-foot trefoil, red beauty bergenia, and broad-leaved gilia — in a deep burgundy, lavender, and gold color palette inspired by Gothic architecture and the natural hues of the Salt Lake Valley's west bench. More than 265,000 people toured the temple during its public open house from April 13 through May 18, 2024. At the dedication, Elder Gong spoke of the communities surrounding the temple, saying of Taylorsville, Bennion, Kearns, Magna, Midvale, Murray, Granger, and Hunter: "Many have deep roots, many are new, all are pioneers."
