About the Yorba Linda California Temple

Yorba Linda takes its name from the Yorba family, who owned a 63,000-acre ranch in the area in the early 1800s, decades before Mormon pioneers first arrived in California in 1846 and the Mormon Battalion completed its historic 2,080-mile march in San Diego the following year. President Russell M. Nelson announced the Yorba Linda Temple on April 4, 2021, during the 191st Annual General Conference, as one of 20 new temples he announced that day — the most he had ever unveiled at a single conference. The 5.46-acre site at Bastanchury Road and Osmond Street had been owned by the Church since the early 1980s, and local members had spent years working to preserve the property in anticipation of a future temple long before the announcement came. An official exterior rendering was released on September 17, 2021, and Elder Mark A. Bragg presided over the groundbreaking on June 18, 2022, praying that the effort would help members "stay on the covenant path and to help others enter and stay on that path."

The finished 30,872-square-foot, single-story temple draws on the region's historic Spanish Mission architecture, with an exterior of white Blanco Macael marble accented by pink and gray Rosa Porrino granite. Inside, decorative tile and custom patterned carpet run throughout, including a New Zealand wool rug in the bride's room. Following a public open house held April 30 through May 23, 2026, President D. Todd Christofferson, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, dedicated the Yorba Linda Temple on June 7, 2026, calling it "a testament to the faith of many generations, with the promise of more faithful, covenant-keeping generations to come." The dedication took place the same day and hour as the Willamette Valley Oregon Temple's dedication — the first time in Church history that two temples have been dedicated on the same day and within the same time zone.
